How To Do a Screen Shot of BrokerForce™

A screen shot is like taking a picture of your screen.  Screen shots can be used for many reasons, the purpose of this FAQ is to instruct how to do a screen shot to be used for support purposes.  Sometimes it is faster, easier, and more descriptive to send a screen shot of an error message as opposed to having to write out a detailed explanation of the error.

To do a screen shot press the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard.  It is usually located in the upper right hand section at the end of the row of function keys.  This places the exact image of your screen on the clipboard.

To create a copy of the image you must use the "MS Paint" program that is included with all versions of Windows.  To open "Paint," click "start" select "run," remove anything currently displyed in the run window and type "mspaint" (w/o the quotes. MS Paint will then open.

At the top of the MS Paint window click "edit", then select "paste."  You should now be able to see the screen shot.  You must then save the file in "GIF" format  so that you can send it in an email.  To save the file in "GIF" format (see image below), at the top of the MS Paint window, click "file" and select "save as" in the next window, in the "Save in:" section choose a location to save the file to (preferably the desktop), then name the file what you wish in the "File name:", finally in the "Save as type:" section select "Graphics Interchange Format (*.gif)", then click "Save" button.  You will be prompted "Saving into this format may result in some loss of color information. Do you want to continue?" Select "Yes."  You may then close the MS Paint window, on your desktop you will see the new file.

Now that the file is saved, you can attach it to an email and send it to support@BrokerForce™.com.
